Progress

Before I get to the baby update... Here is a picture of our sick biggest sister, not in her finest hour. She is much better today, but to say the least, we are glad our brother is tucked neatly away at the germ free hospital, while it is a war zone here at our house. Kaleigh looks equally as bad and I am totally worthless. I can't even stand up straight, I need help getting off the couch plus the flu shot I received in the hospital gave me a touch of the flu so poor Raleigh goes from me to Peyton to Kaleigh and back to me and we whimper and need medicine and drinks and he hasn't slept for four days.

Monday
And here is our sad little brother. The thing on his nose is called a CPAP. It is pumping oxygen into his nose. The tube going into his mouth is a feeding tube. He has a pic line in his right arm. He is wearing eye patches because he has jaundice and the Kryptonite blanket under him is part of his bili light system. He's tough.
On Monday, I finally got to hold him for the first time. It was the greatest feeling. He smells so good and he makes little whimpering noises and scrunches his face up.
I am feeding him through a syringe. Gravity drains the liquid into the tube that flows directly into his stomach. Yummmm.....

Tuesday
(what a difference a day makes...)
Today when we went to see him, all the big stuff was off and he is nearly breathing on his own. We were able to hold him again. It was Raleigh's turn today. We are certain that mom and dad holding him is why he has turned a corner... well... this and finally getting to eat after four days. He's up to ONE ounce every three hours. Which is great, they tell us.
We are so happy that his CPAP is off because we haven't been able to see his face until today. He has been completely covered in tubes and wires and we didn't know what he looked like.
Sometimes he looks like Kaleigh
Sometimes he looks like Peyton
But to us, he always looks darling.
We are so happy at his progress, he is such a fighter
We can't wait to bring him home
Hopefully Friday

P.S. I'm so happy that the little girls are making progress too. It's so sad having everyone feel sick. In just a few days things will be back to normal...well as normal as things can be with a new baby. I hope everyone continues to improve minute by minute!!

I have watched your blog faithfully for the announcement of new baby. I miss a week and all this to catch up on. He is so cute. Which hospital is he in?
I was a premie, and my mom came to the hospital one night at the req of the nurses. I was dying...she put her hand in the bed and told me how much she loved me and how much she needed me, and guess what....Yep here I am. I made a complete turn around. So I think you are right, It did make a huge difference to hold him. xoxoxox
