You know, sometimes bad stuff happens to good people. And sometimes good stuff happens to bad people. And I hate both of those things. I was sitting on a really high ladder in the back corner of the warehouse at work, which for me is really strange because I am deathly afraid of heights, but for some reason I felt very comfortable up there. And no one was bothering me/had a clue where I was... so I had quite a while to just sit and think, while I was being paid, I might add. And I was pondering several events of misfortune that had occurred to me lately that have caused me to feel sorry for myself...
So my wallet was stolen a couple of weeks ago right out of the shopping cart at Costco. And luckily for ME, I have very few things in there, so replacing 2 debit cards, my license with the incorrect address and terrible photo and our insurance card wasn't a horrible inconvenience, but it's the principle of the thing. That someone would do that to another person and feel okay about it, is outside of my realm of thinking. I keep trying to make myself feel better by saying... they probably needed my money more than I did. Maybe they hadn't eaten in a week or maybe they were short on rent. But it really irritates me that someone went rifling through my wallet and most likely threw my kids ID cards and a receipt from my favorite date with Raleigh that I have had for over 4 years and my favorite pen in a bush somewhere. I cried over that stupid receipt more than anything because everything else can be replaced. But who puts their wallet in the cart and leaves it for someone to steal? Only me.
We park our cars in the garage. Both of them. My HUGE car and Raleigh's little car. And we have to park them all askew, so that we can get in and out of them. And last night, I was supposed to pick Allie up at her friends house at 10:00 and when I realized I'd forgotten at 10:30, I bolted up and ran to the car and screeched out of the garage and knocked the passengers side mirror clean off the car. Well, not so much clean off as it is hanging by a wire and flaps in the wind, like a white trash 1976 K car that you see on the freeway from time to time. I am hoping my genius husband can fix it. And he will, while he is shaking his head at me. Because who violently drives out of their garage without looking behind or to the side. I'm just lucky the garage door was already up, or I may have driven right through that. Only me.
The night before our most recent trip to St. G, Raleigh packed the car completely, so that all I had to do was put the babies in it and swing by his store and pick him up on the way out of town. I was a little a head of schedule and I thought... "I'm going to drive through the car wash, so the car will be all beautiful as we drive Southward." The car wash was a little ghetto and it was clanking and rattling and felt like it was beating my car to hell, but I was trapped in there and so I sat there biting my nails, wishing it would be over soon. I drove out very slowly because that is what you are supposed to do for maximum dryness and the most horrible screeching sound started happening and it was as if something was impeding my progress, so I forcefully punched the gas pedal and burst the car out of that place and as I did that I ripped our double jogging stroller off the top of the car (totally forgot it was up there). And it was hanging off the back of my car by the bungee cord. I ran back there and it was literally in 4 separate pieces. It was too heavy and awkward for me to lift it off of the cord or to put back on top and so I did as any helpless female would do and I drove home dragging it behind me, churning up sparks and it was bouncing up really high and to the side and I could see it out of my mirrors and the dragging and bouncing was ripping the once beautiful fabric off of the frame not that it mattered anymore but I needed to get a huge kitchen knife so that I could cut the carnage off of the back of my car. Of course, the first thing Raleigh said to me when he got in the car was "where's the stroller?" I started crying and said "please don't ask me until we are in like..... Fillmore, I can't talk about it right now." I finally got up the courage to tell him what I had done. And he shook his head at me and then randomly, like every 5 minutes or so, he would throw his head back and burst out loud laughing and he did this for over 50 miles as he kept saying "I freakin' love you" which is what he says to me every time I do something stupid. Only me.
I'm thinking it's because I have too many children. Someone recently said to me... "I don't know how you do it, but if any two people can, it's you and Raleigh." And I wanted to say... "it's all Raleigh, he is the one that makes this look easy." I make a "honey-do list" for him every week and 98% of the things on the list are things that I have broken during the previous week that I need him to fix. I'm thinking it's because I've drastically increased my workload at work and in my defense, I haven't made a mistake there in over two years. When I am there, I appear on the ball and in control, it's only when I get home that I completely fall apart. I'm stressed that it may be that I have early onset dementia. I always, at all times, have 300 things on my mind and if I don't write everything down, forget it, it doesn't get done. But, at the very least I am a non stop riot to live with. My mom says "there's never a dull moment at your house". I think if a film crew followed me around, it would be the most hilarious show on television.
And so because I am not covered in boils and my friends haven't forsaken me.... yet... I will stop complaining. And will consider these problems nothing more than comic relief (for Raleigh). I am SO lucky that he LOVES me no matter what I do. I guess I should be glad I didn't leave one of the children on top of the car and then drive through the car wash. Cuz, I certainly could have.
Geez.... don't ya think a little mental clarity would be such a benefit to me? After all, I have several people counting on me and some of them are completely helpless.

What's a little wrecked stroller here and a stolen wallet there? These are merely minor inconveniences compared to those who have REAL problems. You are blessed to have a healthy and happy family, good kids and a husband who loves you, in spite of your distractionitis (is that a word? Well you get what I mean).
Again....all I can say is I love you. You write the best enteries. You are a great mom and wife with a lot on your mind. Many, many of us do these similar things. I love that your hubby laughed for 50 miles and made that comment.
I love reading all your stories. They remind me of myself. I love that Raleigh just laughs and doesn't get mad. You two are awesome!
Wow and double wow. No you aren't exactly job but those complaints you have are decent ones in my opinion. They make for excellent stories though! My mom always says the same thing about our house- never a dull moment! Sometimes I long for dull and boring! You rock!
