Valentines Day... A horrible holiday, in reality for a lot of people. A day that forces you to admit several things. Sometimes you get to admit good things, Sometimes bad things or sad things and.....
Sometimes you are 16 and you have a Valentine and he's the star of the basket ball team and is at the height of his popularity, but he is dumber than a bag of hammers and he's been getting on your last nerve lately and you suffer through a well thought out romantic dinner at KFC, where he not only boastfully brags about his ability to eat 18 "chicken little's," he also shows you. Then he bestows a stuffed dog and GIGANTIC card that is nearly as big as you are on you and you can't even fit it through the door. And then you break up with him the next day.
Sometimes you are 18 and you don't have an official Valentine because your boyfriend is on a mission and so you ask if you can work on the 14th, so you don't stay home all night and cry and the creepiest boy in your stake comes into work, with a flower that he picked out of his front yard and it has tin foil on the bottom and he tells you that he has been watching you from across the street for going on three weeks now and the spirit has whispered to him that you are his future wife. And you throw up a little in your mouth. And then you have to go get a restraining order.
Sometimes you have a Valentine, by default, and he walks into the bedroom and without even looking in your direction, tosses an unwrapped T-shirt at you that he purchased at Hollister on a recent "business trip" to Las Vegas and says "happy valentines day... hope it fits." And you divorce him.
And then...
You fall in love with "the love of your life." And every year you love him more than you did the last year. And he is the reason that you want to get up in the morning and he is everything you ever wanted and each year is better than the last even though last year you thought it could not get any better. And even though you both had to work, opposite shifts, you make the most of it with a little bubbly and a little card and a big ole FREAKISHLY GIGANTIC bouquet of the most beautiful roses and a box of Sweet Tooth Fairy Cakebites. And you tell each other that you love each other and will until the day you both cease to exist. And then you lay in bed and talk about your day and one of you falls asleep mid sentence because he is so exhausted and you kiss your favorite part of the back of his head where his cowlick is and you go to sleep with a smile on your face.
I love this holiday.... NOW!!
My sweet, son and his band serenaded me and made me feel so loved and so proud. They are such nice young men. Kaleigh said "oh my goomus, that is a BIG guitar."
We had some Martinelli's in "love cups"
Here are the tulips that Papa and Nana gave to us to plant in our backyard. I wish our big heads weren't in the way
It is SO much bigger in person.
Here is my sweet little gift from Allison.
She is here visiting me this weekend.
Hope you had a great day
Love to all...

Oh my "goomus" I loved this post.
Funny, Funny! As you know I LOVE, LOVE Valentine's Day but then I have always had a Valentine (for as far back as I can remember anyway). I know this can be a sad day for some and that makes me feel sad too but I must say how happy I am that you have found your eternal Valentine because there is nothing sweeter. I'm glad you had a happy day.
Wow! Can you say spoiled? I guess you deserve it after all of those crummy previous Valentine's day celebrations. Glad it was wonderful.
Such a funny post...and yet so sad. It took me back to my MANY horrible Valentine's days. Let's see...I got a room full of naked men once (and i too got divorced)and once two sugar cookies that a mom made delivered at 11:00 pm...after four years of dating...(and so I broke up).
Now I too love this holiday...I love my valentine and I am SO HAPPY you have Real...forever!!!
I love the way you write...you need to become a writer! I'm so glad that you found true love. You and Raleigh are perfect together.
I'm also so glad that your Allison came for a visit! I'm sure it made your Valentines Day even better-if possible.
I love your love story. I swear it seems like a true life fairy tale. You are indeed blessed!
