I Probably Just Need A Vacation...

I think that for the most part, I am a pretty easy going girl.

I try to at the very least appear to be calm and in control, so even if something is really bothering me, I try to hold it in until I get over it.

There are a couple of things that really do get me fired up!! And when these certain things happen, I lose my mind and can't control myself. It's probably because of all the pent up anger I am holding in from all of the insignificant things that I don't, but should rage about.

But...

The number one thing that gets me going is when someone messes with one my children.

One time I was sitting out in front of the school waiting for my kids to come out and this ugly little freckly faced punk ass kid made the horrifying mistake of making fun of MY second grade Brayden right in front of me and I literally became insane and I leaped out of my car and I picked that child up under one of my arms and stormed into the office and slammed his kicking and screaming butt down in the chair in the Principal's office and demanded that he be expelled immediately for bullying. I was a lunatic. And maybe I regret it... a little.

Anyway, about 2 months ago my elementary school aged girls brought home the DREADED fund raiser packet from school. Fund raisers are the bane of existence for any parent. I don't care who you are, unless of course you are the ridiculous PTA president (no offense) you hate them. So, they brought them home and I very firmly demanded that they were to be thrown in the trash immediately and I stated that I wouldn't be purchasing any of the nasty frozen cookie dough and they were not to bother any of the neighbors.

Allie listened and Morgan "accidentally" sold one to someone in our ward. Anyway last night Morgan tells me that as a reward to those children (including her) who sold cookie dough, there was going to be a party and they get to wear their PJs and they get to watch a movie and have popcorn.

"What do the kids who didn't sell cookie dough do during the party?" I asked. "I don't know" she said "probably do classwork, I guess."

And I looked over at Allie... and she had a look on her face that will be forever burned in my brain. It was the most wounded look I have ever seen. And she said in the sweetest voice I have ever heard

" I know I could have sold at least one"

And my heart began to bleed. And my throat swelled up and my eyes filled up with tears. Because had I let her try, she probably would have sold ONE HUNDRED. She didn't say a word, she didn't throw a fit like she usually does, she just turned around, went downstairs and went to bed.

Well... I waited until the morning before I lost it on the Pony Express Administration, which was either good or bad (I'm not sure) because I had calmed down from my original raging but I also had been stewing about it ALL NIGHT long... rehearsing exactly what I was going to say to the brilliant adult who came up with this brilliant idea of rewarding the little entrepreneurs of the neighborhood while humiliating and punishing all the children who chose not to or were told not to participate in their stupid money making scheme.

Mrs. Smith listened intently while I recounted the events of the previous evening and while I shared my every last thought on sending MY children home with these anger provoking packets of stupidity and I informed her that my children would NEVER be participating in ANY fund raisers now or ever and if each and every one of the children in the entire school were not a part of this REWARD PARTY it should not take place at all or I might have to get the Governor on the phone. And then I made 4 0r 5 other idle threats that I never intended to carry out and I may or may not have insulted her mother, I'm not sure...

And I told her it was MY fault that my cute Allison hadn't sold any and that she needed to go get her out of class and that I would be bringing her PJs to the school so that she could participate.

Anyway...

When I was finally finished, she told me that mine was the 15th parental call in the last 20 minutes and she assured me that she would put a stop to it immediately and it would never happen again. And she apologized to me.

And I hear that popcorn was passed out to all the classrooms and every child got a cup. And it's a good thing too because to be perfectly honest with you...I am not even really sure who our Governor is.

His name is "something" Herbert. I totally agree with EVERY SINGLE WORD you wrote, you are definitely your mother's daughter!! I'm so happy you defended Allie and that she got a cup of popcorn and I'm so glad that she didn't throw a fit because then she would have thought it was because she threw a fit that you defended her and I wouldn't want her to think that that type of behavior was rewarded. I'm so proud of Allie and her reaction to the situation and I'm so proud of you!!! Way to Go MOM!!

DO you even know how many times I have felt like this??!!! Man I was right there with ya-I was fuming mad ready to rip off someone's head.
Good grief to top it all off the schools wonder why we have problems with bullying and BIG ugly meanies. Hmmmm....I wonder if it has something to do with these dumb rediculous parties they throw that pinpoint any kid that isn't in the "right" crowd doing the "right" thing like selling stupid cookie dough. Or why we have kids with low self-esteems, feeling like there not as good as the next kid who sold 100 tubs of frozen cookie dough.
Man I'm so glad you got all that out! You go girl! Oh and I too am very proud of sweet Allie and the way she handled herself. What a good girl and good mamma!

So why can't I be more like you?? Is this the same Kaci that used to be afraid to call and order pizza? :o)
I ended up BUYING the stupid cookie dough from my OWN kids so that my 1st grader could get his name taken down off the board because his name would "stay there until he sold something." Granted, this is the same child who brought home a permission slip to go on a "field trip" to a very wealthy family's home to watch "Alvin and the Chipmunks" in their home theater DURING school hours! Aaargh!
