I cannot believe it's May already.
I had a hard time at the beginning of the year, switching over from the holiday season. Summer seemed so far away. One goal that we set for Peyton for Summer was braces. She has a massive overcrowding problem in her mouth and in conjunction with that, she had four baby teeth that were so wedged in her mouth she couldn't pull them out on her own. We gave her a deadline to have them pulled out by May 15th or we would have to take her to the dentist.
She told us over dinner on the 10th, that she had given up and she felt like she just needed help. So we made her an appointment with the dentist and he removed her last four baby teeth.
She was nervous, but you couldn't tell. And it was a quick, non traumatic procedure.
She celebrated with her favorite drink.
And she was SO ready to get her braces on.
She is the last of her friends to get braces. I have a hard fast rule that my kids don't
get braces until they are 13. I want to make sure they are able to take care of their teeth.
I just don't want my kids in braces for years, which happens when they do a phase I/ phase II
plan. I make them wait.
Allie has had an amazing professional career.
She has been working for the past couple of years at a carwash.
She worked her way up to a managment position and in that time, she has purchased
2 cars and has thousands of dollars in the bank in her savings account.
Recently, her company changed ownership and she didn't like some of their policies and procedures and
where the company was headed.
So she decided to start looking elsewhere.
She very quickly found a new job.... in an office.... with a business casual attire.
Here is what she wore on her first day

Not only that but she nailed her first month.
Earning her full bonus in her first month.
That is incredible for a new employee.
I am so proud of her
Ryker had his 5th grade Wax Museum
He was Jackie Robinson.
I loved how easy his costume was and how clean and well done his poster was.
Raleigh has been planning a golf trip with his buddies for a very long time.
Apparentally, it finally came together.
Apparently they chose dates.
Apparently, they picked an Airbnb.
Apparently, some of them have flights scheduled.
But he hadn't said a word about any of it to me.
The first time I heard about it was when he casually mentioned it to my dad.
THIS is how I felt!!
He swears he told me.... several times.
He could not have been more incorrect.
I am thrilled that he is going. It will be so much fun for him.
But would it have been so hard to say "hey I am going to be out of town for several days in October,
just so you are aware".
Men!
Kaleigh loved Choir.
She loved the songs they sang and how they sounded.
We went to her concert at the end of the year.
There were SO many people we had to stand.
I randomly got this text from Brayden on night at midnight.
It's scary to get a text from your child in the middle of the night.
I was so happy to be awakened to this one.
Followed up by this instagram post.
There is nothing that makes a mother more happy than to hear
their children are happy.
For Mother's Day, Raleigh treated me to a
Fleetwood Mac cover band concert.
They were SO good.
I could hardly tell the difference.
The music was spot on, perfection and the singer
sounded exactly like Stevie. I didn't think it was possible to duplicate
that unique voice, but she did.
I loved it
The weather, however was trecherous!
There was a storm a brewin' and the wind started up.
And it was Co-old!
This woman sat right in front of us. She had two chairs...
one for her bum and one for her feet. She also had a wagon that she pulled in
and parked next to her. Her wagon was like Mary Poppin's purse.
It had EVERYTHING a person would ever need at an outdoor event (lasting up to a week).
She had bags of chips, coats, towels, hair clips, water bottles, card games, lap blankets, a hand held radio,
ear plugs, extra socks and an oversized umbrella for two, and when three drops of rain fell from the sky, she had the solution boy, she promptly opened that thing up and produced shelter from the impending monsoon for her and her humiliated friend. She was coming to the rescue, she was saving them from immenent doom for certain.
Well, first of all the amount of moisture falling from the sky DID NOT warrant even a normal sized umbrella, much less, the big daddy canopy on a stick she produced.
Second, now no one sitting behind her could see the stage and people all around us were mumbling things like..... "It's cool, I didn't want to see the band anyway...". "I came here to listen not see, I guess" etc. And she was hearing the chitter chatter behind her and was annoyed that we were not being supportive of her.... or maybe she was dejected that no one was impressed with her forsight to be prepared for anything that could have possibly ever come up at this 2 hour event.
Deflated, she begrudgingly started to try and collapse the umbrella, but it wouldn't collapse. And the more it wouldn't go down, the madder she got. And the violence with which she tried to force the closure escallated to monumental proportions. She was in an all out brawl now... it was war and she was going to win. She faught and faught and eventually owned that umbrella. She showed it who was boss. And destroyed it.
Literally Tore. It. Up.
.......and then she threw it in a rage on the ground and let out several explatives.
And fixed her hair 500 times
And went back to pulling treasures out of her magical wagon.
And pouted for the rest of the concert
The venue was spectacular
Gorgeous
I loved every song. I knew every word.
Our office is going through changes. We are moving our offices all around now that our laundry facility is up and going. I have been thinking and wishing and hoping and praying that I could get a spot in the front office with the nice big window. I just knew it would do wonders for me to get to look outside and see the weather and who was coming and going. That offce has a calm mood about it. I wanted to be there.
And then, they made a decision and assigned us and BAM!! I got it.
I am so happy. I love it there.
I loved my birthday decorations.
I love my office mates. We crack up all day long.
We share war stories and can't believe the phone calls we receive
and that people say the things they do.
My family took me to Sakura for my birthday.
Of course it was delicious and I definitely caught the shrimp
Then Allie and I had this conversation.
She cracks me up. I love her.
The wonder kid installed a ceiling fan in our bedroom.
I don't know how we have made it without one for four years.
He is so funny with his headlamp on
We wrapped up the month with
B R A C E S B A B Y!!
And she is darling and so happy and we are on our way to a beautiful freckly smile
in two years.
We continue to walk every night we can. Every night it's not windy or cloudy or rainy. We are seeing slight results, but it's enough to keep us motivated. Soon it will be over a 100 degrees until midnight and we won't be able to go as often.
Bring on the blazing hot summer... the sooner it gets here the sooner it will be over.
