Week 3 list
24 to 36 cans of Dinty Moore Beef Stew. (Again adjusted for family size)
(Now let me digress for a moment... This particular delicacy on a normal day might taste a little like dog food, but if you are camping (or in a bit of a disaster like situation) it miraculously takes on flavors not discovered on a regular day and begins to taste like a little piece of heaven. So don't dis it.)
2 gallons of water
3 16 oz bottles of shampoo
3 16 oz bottles of conditioner
Easy breezy japanesey
You now have 12 Wednesdays of Lip Smackin' down home beef stew goodness and clean hair. What more could a family ask for.
Don't forget to continue to collect that water in empty soda bottles. Mucho importante.

I'm keeping up pretty good. I think I'll get the shampoo and conditioner in ONE, Dad likes that anyway and actually this might be a good idea for anyone, maybe a little less money and not so many bottles.
Excellent idea. I don't know why I didn't think of that.
A couple of years ago Brian got drawn to go deer hunting. When he came home he said he really enjoyed that Beef Stew stuff you mentioned. In fact he said he liked it so much that once when we were out shopping togther he actually picked some up and put into our cart. Well long story made shorter he opened up that can one day and he took one bite and said, "What the hell is this?" I couldn't help but laugh at him and his face. He dug the can out of the garbage and said, "Well all I know is this stuff tasted a whole lot different when I'd been gone for 3 days and I was freezing cold." So I will agree with you that in normal circumstances it tastes like dog food but in a crisis it tates like a gourmet meal!
Thanks for list! Oh and I love Nancy's idea! That will save on room and money.
I'm slackin'. But thanks for the reminder. Can I substitute the "dog food" with another
meal-in-a-can? Like, Spaghetti O's or something? LOL! You rock Kac. And...I miss your face!
Hey Kac... when you put water into the 2 liter soda bottles for cooking, do you treat it with a drop of bleach or anything like that? I've heard of that, but I'm not sure if its necessary for the water that you are using for cooking and washing but not for drinking. What say ye?

I haven't been treating it. Only because I will be boiling it and then discarding it. You would however treat a gallon of drinking water with one drop of bleach. So if you are storing it to drink for sure do that. They also suggested storing your water in rinsed out bleach bottles. But that seemed too scary to me. Believe me, I am far from a food storage expert. Sadly, I will mostly be one of the looters if disaster were to strike...
