Time Capsule

While I was at my mom's I did something I shouldn't have, but I did it and it was a good experience for me to experience and so I will tell the story. In September of 2007, my family had a Family Home Evening. We put together a time capsule that wasn't to be opened until the night Brayden opened his mission call.

Each family wrote a letter of our hopes and dreams for the future and every member of the family put a treasure that was important to them at the time in the box. The sad part is that both Kami and I were single moms and divorced. We both tried our best to write optimistic letters of hopes and dreams for our future, but we both knew that neither of us had any guarantees.

Anyway, I confess that while I was in St. G, I cracked that thing open and read the letters. I wanted to see how close I'd come to predicting my future. I wanted to see how much happier I am than I ever thought I'd ever come close to being. I cried and cried on the floor of my parent's family room for both of us girls. Because our lives are so much better than we pretended to believe they were going to be. I cannot believe the blessings we have been given and the miracles that have taken place.

The above picture was taken that September night. It's a cute little incomplete photo. An emotion provoking reminder of how it was and how much better it is now. Sorry that I broke the opening of the capsule rules... but it really made me so happy.

Well shame on you Kaci! I had no idea that I needed to bury the time capsule in a remote secret place so that the "adults" in our family couldn't find it. But I'm glad you had a happy time reading about how it "was" and realizing how blessed you (and all of us) are now. It was a sad time back then but I do remember that we tried to be hopeful and optimistic but I must admit that even on my most optimistic days did I EVER dream it would turn out this good.
We had some miracles happen and I don't want any of us to ever forget them or reduce them to coincidence. Miracles really do happen everyday and we got a good dose of them, we are sooooo blessed.

That is just the best!! I love the story of how your lives have changed and are even better than you dreamed! Peeking in this case was allowed!

I looked below and saw the picture of Brent during the snake adventure. He looks like he is going to be sick! I am certain he inherited this aversion from his mother. I was once in Susan's car with her when she ran over a dead snake. She screamed, pulled over to the side of the road, writhed in fear and agony, and had to take a few minutes to compose herself! It didn't matter that the poor thing was already dead or that we had a big car between us and it. Nope. I had never seen anything so entertaining!

I have to admit that a few months ago I re-read my letter as well. I however didn't crack the seal on the time-capsule...I just have a copy still on my computer. My first line is ..."when we open this time-capsule if I am STILL dating Brett Wilson someone please shoot me" or something to that effect!
That was a sad night...I remember it like it was yesterday. I tried so hard to write a positive letter, with happiness and faith. To me at that time it was all lies...and look...now it has become TRUTH! Already...we didn't even have to wait until Bray was 19. It only took ONE year, technically, for our miracles to happen. You and I have been extremely blessed the past couple years, small miracles still happen everyday.
I love you! I am glad that I had you, someone who understood, who was living something similar. You were a great strength to me...still are!

Kaci... you are a beautiful person inside and out. I'm so grateful for the example of faith and inner strength that you are to me. What a wonderful thing to know how much our Father in Heaven truly loves us, watches over us and blesses our lives. I love you dearly and hope to be able to see you sometime in the not too distant future.

Much love,
Wendy
